This Mexican Embroidery Birthday Cake is the perfect way to celebrate your annual fiesta, with layers of vanilla and Mexican chocolate cake!

Hi friends — happy Thursday! It’s been a little while since I shared an order showcase, so here’s one of my favorite recent cakes. My lovely PA school friend asked me to make the cake for her Mexican-themed 30th birthday party, and I couldn’t resist. This Mexican Embroidery Birthday Cake was such a joy to create: bright colors, playful embroidery-inspired piping, and fresh roses on top. I’m still obsessed with how it turned out.

Making this cake felt especially meaningful because my friend Crystal is Mexican. It was an honor to design something that celebrated her heritage. She pulled out all the stops for the party — chips and dips, tacos, a cooler full of paletas, and a surprise mariachi band late in the evening. Her backyard was decked out for a true fiesta, and the cake fit right in.

Here’s what’s inside: the top tier is two 5-inch layers of vanilla cake, and the bottom tier is three 8-inch layers of Mexican chocolate cake. The whole cake is finished with cream cheese frosting, and the decorative piping was done with American buttercream because it pipes cleanly and holds its shape well. Some of the decorative accents — like the felt cactus toppers — came from a variety pack, and the number candles were actually sparklers, which were a big hit when lit.

Happy birthday, Crystal — I hope you loved your Mexican embroidery birthday cake! It was a joy to celebrate with you and your guests.
