This summer heat has been relentless—if you’re feeling it too, here’s a cool, simple drink to help. I recently tried the new Blackberry flavor from SpinDrift and it inspired this refreshing Blackberry Lemon Basil Fizz.
SpinDrift is a sparkling water brand that uses real fruit, not artificial flavorings or added sweeteners. Their lineup includes favorites like Cucumber, Grapefruit, Raspberry Lime, and now Blackberry. The Blackberry variety blends fresh-squeezed blackberries with a touch of lemon for a naturally flavored sparkling water that’s light, fruity, and not overly sweet.
After chilling a can and taking my first sip, I loved the naturally tinted color and bright blackberry flavor. It’s a thirst-quencher rather than a sugary soda—just a gentle hint of berry sweetness. Hands down, it’s my new favorite SpinDrift flavor.
Inspired by that flavor, I created the Blackberry Lemon Basil Fizz: a fizzy summer beverage made by blending fresh blackberries, lemon juice, basil, and raw honey, then pouring the puree over SpinDrift Blackberry. The result is bubbly, flavorful, and perfect for hot days.
If you’ve made other blended sparkling drinks before, this one follows the same easy method. You’ll need a blender and just five main ingredients:

- Fresh blackberries
- Fresh lemons
- Fresh basil
- Raw honey
The basil may sound unusual in a sweet drink, but it brings a subtle savory note that complements the blackberries beautifully. I rarely add herbs to sweet beverages, but here it works wonderfully.
To make the Blackberry Lemon Basil Fizz: pour a can of SpinDrift Blackberry between two glasses. In the blender, puree blackberries, lemon juice, basil, and honey until smooth. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove pulp and seeds, using a spoon to press the puree through. Divide the strained puree between the two glasses of sparkling water, give a gentle stir, and add ice if you like. The puree fizzes up when it hits the sparkling water, producing a lovely color reminiscent of sangria—if you wanted to add a splash of wine for an adult version, that would pair nicely.
