Tips for making the perfect Sweet Teriyaki Chicken Skewers
Slice your chicken thin: Thin slices cook evenly and stay tender on the skewer. Use a sharp knife and cut consistent pieces so everything cooks at the same rate.
Finish under high heat: For a glossy, caramelized glaze, brush the skewers with sauce and broil briefly at the end, or raise the oven temperature for a short final blast to encourage caramelization.
Serve with sides such as Creamy Mac & Cheese, Creamy Garlic Mashed Potatoes, or Honey Butter Cornbread.

Sweet chili and teriyaki glazed chicken skewers
Equipment
-
chicken skewers
Ingredients
- 2 lbs chicken thighs (or breasts) sliced thin
For the chicken marinade
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp minced garlic
- 2 tbsps minced ginger
- 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
- 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
- 2 tbsps light brown sugar
For the sauce
- 1/2 cup sweet chili sauce
- 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
- 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 2 tbsps light brown sugar
- 1 tbsp honey
Instructions
-
Slice the chicken thinly and marinate it in the chicken marinade for at least one hour, or up to overnight for more flavor.
-
Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto skewers.
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the skewers for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, combine the sauce ingredients in a small pan, bring to a simmer, and let it thicken slightly. Brush the baked skewers with some of the sauce.
-
Return the skewers to the oven for another 10 minutes. Before finishing, brush again with sauce and broil briefly to caramelize the glaze, watching closely so it doesn’t burn.
-
Brush with any remaining sauce and serve immediately while hot.
