Why I love this recipe

This layered slush is more than a drink — it’s a celebration in a glass. The vivid red, white and blue layers are eye-catching, and each brings a distinct flavor: sweet grenadine, vibrant blue curaçao and a bright, rum-forward lemonade layer. It’s quick to make, perfect for serving two, and great for summer gatherings when you want something fun and refreshing.

If you need a main to pair with this, consider steak kebobs or a cranberry-and-almond chicken salad wrap for a satisfying meal.

Expert tips

To keep the layers distinct, blend each color separately and make each layer thick and slushy before pouring. Chill your glasses beforehand so the slush holds its shape longer. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the freezer for up to three months.

Equipment

  • 16 ounce beer glasses

Ingredients

  • 6 cups ice (divided use)
  • ½ cup grenadine syrup
  • ½ cup blue curaçao
  • ¼ cup rum
  • ¼ cup lemonade

Instructions

  • Red layer: In a blender on the crush or pulse setting, combine 2 cups ice and ½ cup grenadine. Blend until a thick slush forms. Add up to ½ cup more ice if needed to reach a dense, scoopable texture. Divide the red slush between the two glasses.
  • Blue layer: Rinse the blender if desired, then blend 2 cups ice with ½ cup blue curaçao until very slushy and thick. Gently spoon or pour the blue layer over the red layer, dividing evenly between the glasses.
  • White layer: Combine the remaining 2 cups ice with ¼ cup rum and ¼ cup lemonade in the blender. Blend until slushy and pour the mixture gently over each glass to create the white layer. Serve immediately for the best texture.
