How to Make Natural Homemade Blush for a Radiant Glow

I’ve been experimenting with making my own natural, inexpensive makeup. This started partly because I enjoy crafting my own products and partly because it’s simple and affordable. I rarely buy commercial makeup, and when I do it’s usually basics like Bare Minerals. I’ve also been lucky to have a supportive mom who used to buy me makeup. Lately, though, I ran out of what I had while traveling and decided to try making my own blush — and I haven’t looked back. Homemade options are quick to make, gentle, and customizable to your preferences.

Homemade Blush

  • Arrowroot powder or organic cornstarch
  • Beet root powder

The shade of pink depends on how much beet root powder you add. A simple ratio that works well is about 2 parts beet root powder to 1 part cornstarch or arrowroot. If you prefer a deeper or warmer tone, add a small pinch of cocoa powder until you reach the color you like.

Directions: Start with 1 tablespoon of arrowroot powder or cornstarch and add 2 tablespoons of beet root powder. Mix thoroughly in a small bowl, breaking up any clumps so the texture is even. Adjust the color by adding more beet root powder for a brighter pink or a little cocoa powder for depth.

To use: Dip a clean blush brush into the powder, tap off any excess, and apply to the apples of your cheeks or along your cheekbones. Blend well for a natural finish.

Making your own makeup is fun, affordable, and easy to tailor to your skin tone and preferences. Keep in mind that results can vary with different skin types and pigments, so you may need to tweak the recipe to get the perfect shade and coverage. Enjoy experimenting and finding what works best for you!
