The holiday season is here and party planning is in full swing.
After years of hosting the annual Logena Christmas party, I’ve learned a lot about entertaining. Guests love finger foods and tend to drink more than you expect, so success comes down to preparation. Plan ahead: choose simple, festive recipes that can be partly made in advance so you can spend more time with friends and family and less time stuck in the kitchen.
If you want to enjoy the party as much as your guests, pick dishes that require only brief hands-on time during the event. Below are favorite crowd-pleasing recipes and drinks that reduce stress and boost the fun. Happy hosting!
Domesticate ME!’s Best Holiday Party Recipes:
1. Brie and Candied Bacon Grilled Cheese Bites. Brown sugar-glazed bacon, melted Brie and buttery grilled baguette combine into irresistible little bites. They’re easy to assemble and deliver maximum flavor with minimal fuss.
2. Roasted Butternut Squash Quesadillas with Goat Cheese and Crispy Sage. An elevated quesadilla that feels elegant and seasonal. Make extra—these disappear fast.
3. Acorn Squash Tart with Prosciutto and Pomegranate. A showstopper that looks impressive but is surprisingly simple, especially when using store-bought puff pastry.
4. Manchego Crisps with Serrano Ham, Quince and Marcona Almonds. Crispy baked cheese is magical. Top the crisps with savory and sweet garnishes for an elegant, easy appetizer.
5. Beef Tenderloin Crostini with Whipped Goat Cheese and Pesto. Foolproof and festive—if you try only one recipe from this list, make it this crostini.
6. Mini Crab and Bacon Quesadillas with Sweet Corn Guacamole. These mini quesadillas can be fully prepped in advance and finished quickly during the party. Use frozen or canned corn if fresh isn’t available, or omit it.
7. Slow Roasted Beef Tenderloin with Rosemary. Roast the tenderloin a day ahead or the morning of the party, chill it, then slice thinly and serve with baguette rounds and a selection of condiments—pesto, horseradish aioli or herb mayo work well. Soft cheese and arugula make great garnishes.
8. Butternut Squash Crostini with Brussels Sprouts and Pomegranate. Sweet butternut squash and ricotta purée, roasted Brussels sprouts and bright pomegranate make a festive, balanced crostini—perfect seasonal finger food with attractive red-and-green colors.
9. Peppermint Bark Rice Krispie Treats. Loaded with Oreos, peppermint and chocolate, these no-bake treats are an easy crowd-pleaser for cookie exchanges and parties.
10. Peppermint Chocolate Chip Blondie Bites. Festive and indulgent, these blondie bites are a holiday must-make.
11. Bourbon Spiced Cider Punch. A simple dump-and-stir batch cocktail that’s perfect for crowds. It’s strong and dangerously easy to drink, so sip responsibly.
12. Grapefruit-Rosemary Mules. This seasonal mule scales well for a crowd and looks pretty with rosemary sprigs floating in a punch bowl. Squeeze the grapefruit juice ahead of time to avoid last-minute sticky hands.
13. Spiced Pumpkin Punch. Adding pumpkin purée to bourbon punch is surprisingly delightful and creates an unexpected, delicious seasonal cocktail.
For more ideas from The Dude Diet, consider Thai Chicken Meatballs, Maple-Bourbon Roasted Almonds, Bison and Sweet Potato Waffle Fry Sliders with Special Sauce, Cheesy Jalapeño Poppers, or Nutty Chocolate Brookies—each would make a fine addition to your spread.
Don’t forget wine. I’ve been enjoying Vinho Verde for its versatility and value—perfect for serving a crowd without overspending. A great crowd-pleaser is the Casa de Vilacetinho Arinto 2015: vibrant and fruity without being overly sweet, it pairs well with a wide range of small bites.
