I have a soft spot for breakfast — and brunch is basically breakfast at its best. Whether you’re planning an Easter or Mother’s Day gathering or want to treat friends on a slow weekend morning, a smoked salmon brunch board feels indulgent and festive without being fussy.

This platter highlights smoked salmon as the star ingredient, surrounded by classic accompaniments like bagels and whipped cream cheese, tangy quick-pickled shallots, soft-boiled eggs, fresh fruit and crisp vegetables. The variety of colors and textures makes it both beautiful and satisfying.

For the best results, choose a high-quality smoked salmon. The board shown here features hot and cold smoked salmon from Blue Circle Foods, which I appreciate for its flavor and the brand’s commitment to responsible sourcing and transparent farming practices.

Blue Circle’s salmon comes from a family-run, low-density farming operation in Norway’s Arctic Circle. The fish are raised without antibiotics or GMOs, and the company emphasizes traceability and reduced environmental impact. These qualities make it an excellent choice when you want both great taste and responsible sourcing.

Planning your Smoked Salmon Platter Presentation

Decide how many guests you’ll serve and whether you want a single large board or a few smaller ones. Either option works — choose what fits your table and serving style.

Choose ingredients that complement the salmon in flavor and add visual interest. Classic components include bagels, cream cheese, sliced cucumber, fresh dill, lemon wedges and a salty element like capers or olives. Add quick-pickled shallots, avocado, soft-boiled or hard-boiled eggs, and seasonal fruit and vegetables for variety.

Many elements can be prepared ahead of time: make the whipped cream cheese, pickle the shallots and boil the eggs the day before so assembly is quick and stress-free. If guests have dietary restrictions, include gluten-free bread or dairy-free spreads so everyone can enjoy the platter.

Assemble the platter

Assembling the brunch board is the most enjoyable step. Allow 10–15 minutes to prep fruit, slice vegetables and place spreads and pickled onions in small bowls. Position the smoked salmon as the focal point in the center of your board, then place the whipped cream cheese or other spreads on opposite sides.

Arrange bagels, bread or crackers near the spreads. Scatter eggs, olives, fruit and vegetables around the board to create appealing color contrasts. Fill empty spaces with lemon slices and fresh dill sprigs for a polished finish.

Voila! Your smoked salmon brunch board is ready to serve.

Recipe notes

  • Prep the whipped cream cheese, pickled shallots and eggs a day in advance for easy morning assembly.
  • Accommodate dietary needs by offering gluten-free bagels or a dairy-free spread alongside the main board.
  • The recipe scales easily for more or fewer guests. You don’t need to place everything on the board at once — keep extras on standby to replenish the display.

Smoked Salmon Breakfast Platter is an elegant brunch option with tips on what to serve and how to display a smoked salmon board.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. smoked salmon

Quick pickled shallots:

  • 1 large shallot, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Lemon dill whipped cream cheese:

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt

Other additions:

  • 6 hard boiled eggs
  • 6 mini bagels (or regular size)
  • 8 ounces assorted sliced bread or crackers
  • 1 lb. assorted grapes
  • 1 lb. strawberries
  • 2 blood oranges
  • 1 cucumber, sliced
  • 1 bunch radishes, sliced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1 cup olives
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • fresh dill sprigs

Instructions

Prepare the quick pickled shallots:

  • Peel and thinly slice the shallot, then place it in a mason jar or small bowl.
  • In a small saucepan, bring the apple cider vinegar, maple syrup and salt to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes, then pour the hot mixture over the shallots.
  • Let sit at least 1 hour at room temperature. For best flavor, cool completely, cover and refrigerate overnight.

Prepare the lemon dill whipped cream cheese:

  • In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with a handheld mixer until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes. Add lemon zest, lemon juice, chopped dill and salt, and beat until combined.

Assemble the brunch board:

  • Place the smoked salmon in the center of your board. Place the whipped cream cheese in two small bowls on opposite sides of the board.
  • Arrange bagels and bread near the spreads. Lay out eggs, olives, fruit and vegetables in a visually appealing pattern. Fill large gaps with lemon slices and dill sprigs, then serve.

Notes

  • Nutrition will vary depending on the bagels and crackers you choose.
  • Prep whipped cream cheese, pickled onions and eggs a day ahead to save time.
  • Offer gluten-free or dairy-free options if needed for guests.
  • The board is easy to scale. Keep extra bread, eggs and fruit ready to replenish the display.
