I’ve missed bagels, sandwiches, and burgers, and for a while I went bunless or adjusted meals to avoid carbs. A few weeks ago I tried keto bagels and desserts and immediately fell in love. That inspired me to create my own version.

They’re perfect with a smear of Kerrygold butter for a quick breakfast, or piled with your favorite meats and cheeses for a satisfying sandwich. You can enjoy a burger with all the toppings without the carb guilt.

This recipe lends itself to customization — add the herbs or spices you prefer — but the garlic-herb combination is a favorite. I’ve tried several keto bagel recipes and appreciate the texture and simplicity of this one. They hold together well, aren’t crumbly, and can be toasted without falling apart. Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cup almond flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 2 1/2 cups shredded Italian blend cheese (Farmstyle cut)
  • 2 ounces cream cheese
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a bowl, stir together the almond flour, baking powder, and Italian seasoning; set aside.
  3. Combine the shredded Italian blend and cubed cream cheese in a large microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for about 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds, until melted and combined.
  4. Add the flour mixture, beaten eggs, and minced garlic to the warm melted cheese. Mix, then knead with your hands or a paddle attachment until a sticky dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough into 7 equal portions. Shape each portion into a log, join the ends to form a bagel, and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining dough.
  6. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until lightly browned. Let cool slightly before slicing or toasting.
